2017
I’m writing this very retrospectively as it was a long while ago that we went to Thailand and I’ve only just got around to writing about it.

Taking three kids, all teens, meant we needed to find a holiday with something for everyone. We decided on Phuket and stayed at the Dusit Thani Laguna hotel. This was a bit of a splurge for us, but we managed to get it on a bit of a steal meaning we could get an apartment with a rooftop pool so we were self-contained too.

We were only there for ten days and ensuring everyone was kept active/relaxed meant seeking out some trips and also allowing for chill time at the beach or pool. We spent a wonderful couple of days, one taking bikes around the local area, visiting a temple or two and smelling the awful durian fruit as we cycled through the trees! Another day we took a junk over to the ‘James Bond Island’, which you can no longer visit. We were extremely lucky with this trip as we were one of only two families on the boat. The kids (and we) absolutely loved this day. There was a stop at one of the villages on stilts too. The company we used for the boat trip was June Bahtra by Asian Oasis and I cannot rate them (in 2017!) highly enough.
We did, however, stay within the complex initially for meals. We had an all inclusive trip and frankly, the food was excellent, but we didn’t need all in. We wandered out into the local area to find incredible food (especially seafood) and ridiculously cheap prices and the atmosphere was much more vibrant. We even found a night market that also did amazing food. The fruit and food in Thailand is probably the best I have had in the world so far, so fresh and delicious and the variety and choice is immense. We found a beach bar about a mile away that did crab that must have been caught literally moments before we arrived, although the kids were a little freaked out by the ghost crabs we had to dance over to avoid to get to the bar at night.
Thailand is a great destination for kids. We hardly touched any surfaces at all. There are so many parts that I want to see, so a return trip will definitely be in order sometime in the future.
